System Hardware and Software Information.
Networking.
BusDiary is fully network enabled and can run on fifty or two hundred computers at the same time.
Proviso: Your network needs to be in good condition, and that is not common in bus companies.
In the event of network failure the main computer continues to work.
Software
BusDiary runs using Corel Paradox as a base.
Corel Paradox is part of the Corel Wordperfect Suite.
Corel Wordperfect is a main competitor to Microsoft Office.
Norton Winfax has also been integrated into BusDiary.
Confirmations are faxed without ever touching paper and without having to type the fax number.
A faxed confirmation automatically faxes to the clients fax number listed in the client details.
Pdf995 is used to automatical produce pdf's'.
Hardware
Yesco supplies a computer with BusDiary pre loaded. Reasons for this include:-
It is the cheapest way of supplying Corel Paradox software.
Yesco can ensure the quality of the machine suits BusDiary database use. (Yesco has seen some dreadful machines in bus companies and many were recent and expensive.)
Reliability
BusDiary has been used continuously day in day out for more than ten years. Tables have been setup so that repair is easy in the event of a catastrophy. Table repairs and general maintenance can generally be done in house.
I think in ten years I have had one table that would not rebuild. I lost one or two records which were easily reentered. And one set of invoices was issued twice because data was incorrectly transfered from a home computer to a work computer. We have met all manner of users and have protected against all manner of madness.
The Author
Andy Chalkley. Trained in Engineering in the Imperial College, University of London. This included computing modules. He taught Maths Physics and Computing at various high schools in Western Australia. Owned and operated 'Down Under Bus and Coach Service Pty Ltd' in Perth Western Australia from 1989 to 1999. The business was sold in 1999. Down Under had a busy fleet of charter buses close to Perth centre. Developed BusDiary in 1993. Down Under had a contract to supply buses to WestRail in the event of disruption of service. Up to 75 buses were co-ordinated using BusDiary sometimes reaching 750 movements in a day. BusDiary scheduled this without problem.
Andy Chalkley now runs a computer company that covers sales, service, website and database.
